The Christmas countdown has begun! (Not that anyone is counting. 😉) With Christmas Break in sight, students will wrap up this week in a festive fashion ranging from Santa wear and ugly sweaters to pajamas and reindeer attire. And there is nothing like a "Christmas Color War" to cap off the week and put a little joy into the season. Merry Christmas everyone! |
On stage, for the first time ever, the Prep choir and band came together for a shared performance. Directed by teacher Elliot Weeks, over 100 students performed a two-hour musical treat based on hit songs from favorite Christmas movies. The evening featured great numbers from the concert and advanced choirs as well as the freshman and sophomore band program. The Prep Christmas concert followed the first annual Prep for Christmas event this year, below.

Come one and all. And that's just what happened at the inaugural Prep for Christmas event this weekend. Cookies, Christmas tree lighting, music, cocoa and singing—brought cheer to the Prep campus. Thanks to all who attended this festive event! | |

Students from Xiaofeng Foster's Mandarin 2 class went to T&T Supermarket last Friday to explore the store's vast offerings of Asian food! Students did a scavenger hunt in different sections in the store. These findings will be used later to create photo stories for their classmates! |

Stuck between your kids’ soccer schedule and your mom’s latest doctor appointment? You’re not alone. More and more parents are finding themselves caring for aging parents while still raising children and managing careers. In this honest and practical session, we’ll talk about what it really looks like to support our parents as they age—emotionally, logistically, and financially—without losing our own footing. You’ll get tips for starting tough conversations, making smart plans, and understanding the range of care options available to your aging parents.
Your Session Facilitator: Nicole Amico Kane, MSW, LICSW, CMC, Aging Wisdom, Seattle, WA
Nicole Amico Kane is a licensed clinical social worker and Aging Life Care Professional with 18+ years of experience guiding older adults and their families through the complexities of aging and long-term care. As the Director of Care Management at Aging Wisdom in Seattle, Nicole leads a team that provides personalized consultation and care management services for aging individuals. Nicole has a special interest in helping families navigate dementia, resistance to care, and mediating families in conflict. In addition to her professional work, Nicole also finds herself in the Sandwich Generation, raising school-aged children and supporting aging parents from a distance.

Did you know that service not only benefits others but yourself, too? The act of giving, whether it's through donations or simply volunteering your time, can boost feel-good chemicals in your brain like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin. For Wellness Wednesday last week, Global Justice Coalition partnered with the newly formed Healthcare Club to assemble hygiene kits for neighbors in need. For questions about wellness programming, email Lauren Carlos.

LAST CALL FOR GIVING TREE 2025 DONATIONS
|
This week marks the end of Prep's annual Giving Tree charity drive. All donations are due by Wednesday, December 17, 2025 so students can orchestrate deliveries before the Christmas holiday. This year, each grade level has adopted a local organization to focus their generosity:
🎁Freshmen are collecting toys/gifts and winter coats for children and youth (ages 0-12) for the families served by Ronald McDonald House.
🍼 Sophomores are collecting diapers, baby formula, and winter clothing for infants and toddlers for Westside Baby.
🎒 Juniors are collecting travel-szied hygiene items, warm socks, blankets, and other winter weather items for the guests at Recovery Cafe. 🎁 Seniors are collecting holiday gifts for teens (ages 13-18) for Treehouse for Kids.
🎄 Additionally, we are collecting gift cards for $10-25 to places like Target, QFC, Safeway, Whole Foods, and Starbucks - all places downtown and close to Catholic Housing Services communities (specifically St. Martin's on Westlake, Bakhita Gardens, and Dorothy Day House). The gift cards will go to residents of these three communities.
All donations are due by Wednesday, December 17. Donations can be dropped off in labeled boxes in Collegio classrooms (and the library for seniors); gift cards go to Ms. Haywood's office. Thanks in advance for all your generosity this season! Email Ms. Miller & Ms. Harvey in the Service & Justice program with any questions. |

GRATIA — AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR EDUCATORS |
Thank you to everyone that has generously given to our Gratia program. All of our faculty and staff will benefit from your gifts in the months to come. This week is your last opportunity to give!
There is a longstanding tradition at Seattle Prep of showing appreciation for our faculty and staff through a monthly meal called Gratia. The Gratia program is part of the Parent Association, and each month the Gratia team, comprised of parent volunteers, serves a meal to show our gratitude for the people who support our students every day. In recent months, we have included a fun $50 gift card drawing at the conclusion of each meal.
We have an opportunity for ALL families to give the gift of appreciation this holiday season! Please click here to donate to the fund that provides treats, coffee, lunches, and more to our awesome faculty and staff throughout the school year. We can't make this invaluable event happen without your support, and it's the perfect way to say "THANK YOU" to the 130 staff members at Prep!
Please reach out to Laura Matter with any questions. |

FRESHMAN RETREAT REGISTRATION |
Please sign the consent form for your Freshman for their mandatory retreat that will take place in the late afternoon of Thursday, January 29 to 11:30AM on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Seattle Prep.
Our theme of the retreat is "You are the Light of the World" Matthew 5:14-16 We want all freshman to feel like Prep is their home and that they can let their light shine. This retreat serves Seattle Prep’s mission to educate the heart as well as the mind. It will set the tone for their remaining high school years. This retreat allows the Freshman class to build community by engaging in prayer, small group discussions, and large group activities. It gives them opportunities to practice the goals of Jesuit education, known as The Grad at Grad: being open to growth, intellectually competent, committed to justice, spiritually alive, and loving.
This is a required retreat. We ask that you do not schedule any activities or appointments that conflict with retreat time. Students cannot be late or leave early from this retreat. Contact Community Minister Brian Mack with questions.
