Meet Our Music Director

Elliot Weeks is the Choir Director and Jazz Band Director at Seattle Prep. He is an award-winning vocalist and composer and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He earned a Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. Elliot has taught at the collegiate, middle, and high school levels and truly enjoys connecting and creating with students through music.

 

Seattle Prep’s Music Program focuses on fostering a positive, creative, and empowering environment for students to cultivate their musical and artistic skills. Through learning musical techniques, a variety of musical styles and traditions, as well as performing at their highest ability, students also learn leadership, teamwork, and community-building with one another as a performing ensemble.

Student ensembles at Seattle Prep perform throughout the year both on and off campus. Ensembles include the Seattle Prep Window Choir, Advanced Choir, Concert Choir, Freshmen Choir, Freshmen Band, Sophomore Band, and Jazz Band. There are additional courses that students may take as part of the arts curriculum at Seattle Prep, including Freshman Popular Music in America and Music in the Movies.

Immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit as Seattle Prep's Choir presents a mesmerizing performance of the classic "Do You Hear What I Hear." Join us on December 16 in the Healy Chapel Theater as our talented choir, under the direction of Elliot Weeks, brings timeless Christmas songs to life with angelic harmonies and powerful vocals. Let the joy and warmth of the season take over as our young performers showcase their dedication and musical prowess.

Advanced Choir

 

Advanced Choir is open to students grade 10-12. Students enrolled must have taken a previous choir course at Prep or have other outside choral experience as a perquisite for placement. This class rehearses during the school day and performs at the Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, Benaroya Hall, and joins Window Choir in traveling to festivals and competitions around the state.

Window Choir

 

Window Choir is a yearlong course open to all Prep students grades 9-12. The award-winning ensemble rehearses every window period and are the most active of the performing ensembles at Prep. Performing highlights include 3 on-campus concerts, performing at Benaroya Hall, and traveling to various festivals and competitions around the state. 

Concert Choir

 

Concert Choir performs during the Fall semester and is open as an academic Arts class to students grade 10-12 as “Choir” and grade 9 as “Freshmen Choir.” These classes rehearse during the school day and participates in three major performances along with Window & Advanced Choirs: The Fall Concert, Christmas Concert and Benaroya Hall performance.

Jazz Band

 

Jazz Band is Prep’s award-winning instrumental ensemble, open to grades 10-12. This ensemble explores the approaches, history, and various styles of jazz music. Concepts such as improvisation, advanced harmony, and stylistic interpretation are discussed and solidified. The Jazz Band performs at the Spring Concert, Arts Festival, and the popular Jazz on the Plaza, as well as traveling to festivals and competitions in the region.

Freshmen Band

 

Freshmen Band is open to students in grade 9 who have experience playing an instrument. The band rehearses during the school day and focuses on ensemble teamwork, musical technique, and playing in a variety of styles and eras. The band performs at the Fall Concert, Open House, and the Christmas Concert

Sophomore Band

 

Sophomore Band is open to students in grade 10 who have experience playing an instrument. The band rehearses during the school day and expands on the skills and concepts established in Freshmen Band. This group performs at the Fall Concert, Open House, and the Christmas Concert.
