Drama

The Seattle Prep Theatre Program is designed to enable students to discover their creative abilities while inspiring them to strive for artistic excellence. Our award winning Theatre Program gives students a wide variety of opportunities in the performance and production of live theatre. Our mission strives to achieve the following goals:

  • To produce the highest quality performances we are capable of creating
  • To challenge ourselves with productions that stretch our talents and abilities
  • To encourage students to attain a mastery of the theatre arts
  • To develop a life long appreciation for and involvement with theatre
  • To develop integrity, positive attitude and rigorous work ethic in our company

Students at Prep are involved in every aspect of theatre, working on stage and behind the scenes as performers, directors, designers, builders, and crew members. Each year the program presents a three-show season that includes a play, a musical, and a student-directed festival of short works. Performers are selected through auditions, while technical roles are filled through an interview process.

Theatre courses at Prep include different levels of Acting, Communications, and Technical Theatre, giving students opportunities to build skills in performance, playwriting, voice, movement, design, and stage production. These classes combine creative exploration with practical experience, preparing students to understand both the artistry and craft of theatre.

Performance classes are taught by Theatre Director Adam Othman, and Technical Theatre courses are led by Technical Director Kristi Matthews, offering students guidance and expertise in all areas of theatre-making.

Fr. Healy Chapel & Theater

The Fr. Healy Chapel and Theater opened in 2008 and is the primary home for our performing arts programming. The theater seats 350 and is outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, including 30 LED lighting fixtures and a digital audio board for clear sound. The front of the stage lowers, revealing a full orchestra pit. The theater is both our rehearsal and performance space.

Students interested in working behind the scenes are trained in stage management, lighting, sound, construction, scenic painting, props, costuming, and working our fly-rail rigging system. Students working on the production crew learn from professional designers and student crew leaders.
